Zlow - Slow Fashion Community

Zlow - Slow Fashion Community

ROLE

UX UI Designer

Duration

3 Weeks

From Inspiration to Action

Zlow is a concept app designed to promote circular fashion by allowing users to exchange clothes, learn about sustainable practices, and be part of a growing community. This project was born out of my personal interest in sustainability and fashion, and it served as a hands-on exercise to strengthen my UX and product design skills.

Problem

In Colombia, access to slow fashion is still limited. While platforms like GoTrendier and Instagram communities exist, the experience is fragmented and purely transactional.

What was missing?

  • A space for easy, direct, and trustworthy clothing exchange.

  • Educational content tailored to younger audiences.

  • A sense of belonging and community, not just resale.

Research & Definition

With this in mind, I began a research process with one main guiding question to answer:

How do you design something that drives action, not just browsing?

How do you design something that drives action, not just browsing?

How do you design something that drives action, not just browsing?

The process began with a benchmark of platforms such as Vinted, ThredUp, Depop, GoTrendier, Dopplle, and Sojo. Features, visual language, engagement strategies, and purpose were all analyzed.

Gen Z consumption trends were also studied, revealing that:

Purpose drives action: Gen Z is highly motivated by causes and values. They are more likely to engage with a platform if it reflects their stance on social and environmental issues.

They value identity, education, and participation: This generation doesn’t want to be passive consumers. They’re looking for platforms where they can express themselves, learn continuously, and feel part of a greater movement.

They expect intuitive, visual, and social experiences: Raised on mobile-first design and social media, Gen Z users demand smooth, attractive interfaces and opportunities for connection.

These insights shaped two core user profiles:

Conscious Consumers (18–30)

  • Care about sustainability and self-expression.

  • Want to exchange, donate, or find second-hand clothing.

  • Curious about slow fashion and eager to learn.

Small Sustainable Business Owners (e.g., thrift shop owners, upcyclers)

  • Need a platform to showcase curated or upcycled items.

  • Want to reach audiences that care about values, not just prices.

  • See community and education as selling points.

How was my design process?

Product Architecture Map

First, I started by defining what the navigation structure of the app was going to be, based on what I initially assumed could be the most intuitive path for users. I also made sure to allocate a clear space for each core feature in order to avoid overstimulating them with cluttered or overcrowded screens.

Key User Flows

I then moved on to mapping the different user interaction flows within the product, focusing on the essential actions they needed to perform in the first version of the app, which included:

Search, buy, trade or make a monetary offer for a product

Navigate and find articles, tutorials and events

Profile management: Activity tracking, impact indicators, inventory handling, etc.

Wireframes

After that, I began sketching the first concepts for the architecture of each screen and flow, creating mid-fidelity wireframes to quickly shape my ideas while keeping them as close as possible to the final product.

Explorations

Once the initial wireframes were ready, I carried out numerous explorations of visual identity applications, considering the brand’s graphic elements until reaching the final design. This outcome best represented Zlow’s essence, balancing it with usability and accessibility principles.

Key Features Final Designs!

Marketplace

The Marketplace is where Zlow comes to life. Here, users can explore a curated feed of sustainable fashion, tailored to their tastes and activity, while discovering the positive impact of conscious consumption.

They can filter and search for items, make offers, and interact through likes or comments. Along the way, they’re guided by educational blocks with tips, recommendations, and highlights of fellow “Zlowers” who share similar styles or stand out in the community.

Product pages provide all the essentials: clear photos, detailed descriptions, and options to share, comment, like, or propose a purchase or exchange.

Community

The Community section is Zlow’s hub for inspiration and knowledge. It’s where users can:

Dive into articles on upcycling, garment care, or tips for smooth exchanges.

Watch tutorial videos, browse past editions of Zlow’s digital magazine, and discover events that connect the community beyond the app.

With easy category filters, search tools, and the ability to save, like, share, or comment, this space turns education into an engaging, collaborative experience.

Notifications

Notifications are the central dashboard for everything that matters to the user. From new product listings and likes on their posts, to event invites, offer requests, and fresh magazine editions, this view keeps them in the loop without overwhelming them.

Custom filters let users focus on what’s most relevant, whether it’s unread updates, community activity, or exchange requests.

Profile

The Profile view is the user’s personal corner of Zlow, a place to showcase their identity, style, and journey in sustainable fashion.

It displays their profile photo, name, follower metrics, items sold or purchased, and posts.

Organized tabs make it easy to explore their public activity: saved items, transaction history, environmental impact, and ratings from other users.

From here, they can edit their profile, access account settings, chat with others, and share their profile link.

When visiting someone else’s profile, users can follow them, turn on notifications, and explore their contributions to the Zlow community.

Next Steps

  • Build mid-fi prototype for testing

  • Validate with real users

  • Design responsive web version

  • Integrate additional features (tailor connections, gamification, reputation system)
