Context
This project was born from my desire to create a warm, virtual space to share with friends who live far away but remain close to my heart. Even though we’re not physically together, we still talk almost daily, sharing creative projects, struggles, and laughter. I wanted to build a place that could replicate that feeling of presence—a little home where we could “exist” together even from a distance.
At the same time, I was curious to explore game design, a discipline I had never worked in professionally. I saw this as a chance to experiment with visual design, web programming, and even AI—combining creativity and code in one meaningful, personal project.
Design Process
From the beginning, I wanted the visual world to feel soft, cozy, and familiar. I drew inspiration from games like Tsuki Odyssey and, as well as illustrated interiors and pastel environments I found on Pinterest. The idea was to create a home that felt welcoming, playful, and intimate.
I structured the app around a few key moments:
1.
Selecting a character
2.
Entering the shared home
3.
Chat interaction and object animations
The entire interface and structure were defined using Figma. Then, I gradually built the experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, working directly in the Cursor AI editor. This setup allowed me to iterate quickly and keep everything in one place.
The Game So Far
The current version is a playable, multiplayer experience. When users enter, they choose a character and can explore the shared virtual home with friends. The chat system lets them send floating messages that appear as bubbles above their character, adding a lively, personal feel.
Key features include:
Character selection screen
Responsive game view (mobile & desktop)
Bubble chat system with disappearing messages
Multiplayer functionality using WebSocket
Interactable objects like lamps, sinks, and bathtubs
Although simple, the home already includes animated elements like passing clouds (via Lottie animations) and environmental sound effects. It runs in the browser and is currently hosted using GitHub, Netlify, and Render.
Next Steps
This version is just a starting point. I’d love to continue evolving the project by adding:
More interactive elements (e.g. windows, music)
Mini-games to make the world more engaging
A reward and point system for user actions
Persistent chat history (lasting 24 hours)
Improvements to the multiplayer sync experience
Thematic events or seasonal decorations
I also want to experiment with character customization, maybe even creating shared memories through photos or audio clips.
Final Reflections
This project has been a personal playground and a learning lab.
It allowed me to bring together design, code, and emotion into something tangible. Nuestra Casita isn’t meant to be a big commercial game, it's simply an excuse to explore, to learn, and, most of all, to reconnect with the people I love… even if it’s just through a tiny screen.
